ThingsOfMagnitude

Ever since the beginning of my homeschool experience I always wondered why English class required me to read poems. Why? They were so hard to understand, and coming from a modern setting I can't really connect with the old frontier days of the Union. All I really do is skim through them not even thinking twice. But just yesterday I came across a poem that finally made sense, a poem that finally demanded my attention. A poem by James Russell Lowell titled "The Nation and the Gospel."

"The worst kind of religion is no religion at all, and these men living in ease and luxury, indulging themselves in the amusement of going without religion, may be thankful that they live in lands where the gospel they neglect has tamed the beastliness and ferocity of the men who, but for Christianity, might long ago have eaten their carcasses like the South Sea Islanders, or cut off their heads and tanned their hides like the monsters of the French Revolution."

Okay, with that aside I find myself in a state of ease. But I can hardly keep the peace! Whenever I watch the TV (which is occasional at best, and is a completely healthy past time I find myself with daily for hours on end) I see these ads concerning political people! I know, the elections are coming soon, but why must the minors of our society, who don't even have a voice in our government, suffer through this when we watch our daily cartoons of stupidity? Not only are these ads unbearable, but they are also repulsive. Why would a political candidate promote honesty, integrity, and justice (which by the way is not even talked about much) and slander the opposing faction? Be it Republican, Democrat or that other thing, I DON'T want to see my future authority acting like foolish children on a playground pointing fingers at one another. If you want my vote (the time will come when I can vote, my fellow readers....brace yourselves) get it by showing me what you did or are going to do (and following up with actually DOING IT), not by this....what? Strategy of making me think badly of the opposing faction.

As a blogger and as someone who has great influence over the internet I am told it is bad for me to take a side on any issue, as it would cause a decrease in my wonderful readers. Really? Are you guys that fragile? Must everyone agree or simply say, "I dunno...der der!" For you to have a fake sense of right? Grow up my readers, disagreement is a big part of life! People think differently from you. There are some things that are subject to opinion, HOWEVER, there are many debates on topics that are clearly black and white. That said I wont chose a side I favor in politics like a good blogger!......

  1. Yeah! That's what I'm talk'n 'bout! I'm glad you won't 'force' your opinions on us poor readers. I mean the whole reason to subscribe to this blog is for the laughs and occasional jabs!

  2. I like it that you're bold and confident enough to express your take on things. Sticking your neck out like that requires courage.

I'm truly abashed at my horrible spelling/grammer.....i guess thats what befalls a lazy personage that prefers to swype her post from one of these technological gadgets that takes pictures, emails, surfs the web, oh!, and can (in extreme situations) actually call someone....thank you for your patience with me...
